When you are working with people you’ve known, and, as the case maybe, are close to, the chemistry is bound to show in the collaboration. For music director Jassie Gift, the fact that his 25th film in the Kannada industry,

Jani

, would be with long-time pal, cinematographer-turned -director

PKH Das

, was the icing on the cake. “I have known Das since my work on Hudugatta. When you compose music for a film, audiences may like how it sounds to them, but if the visuals are not equally pleasing, the overall effect will be diminished. With Das, I had absolutely no doubt about the picturization of the

songs

— he would, for sure, make it look beautiful. Add to that, the fact that Chinni Prakash was choreographing all the songs and I knew that my songs were in safe hands,” says Jassie.
The music director is known to have a certain style when it comes to composing melodies, which he says he did not diverge much from for Jani. “Even though I was briefed about sequences in the film and the kind of songs that they wanted, I had a lot of freedom to decide how to go about it and I decided to do it the most in terms of the voices I have on the soundtrack. For instance, the song Kaddu Kaddu Nodi has Shreya Ghoshal and Shashank Sheshagiri, while hip hop rapper Chandan Shetty joins me on the title track Jani Jani. My personal favourite, though, is the bar track, Don’t Worry Be Happy, which I have sung with Vijay Prakash,” says Jassie.
