One of the five stories in debutant director
Pannaga Bharana’s
Happy New Year
features actor-producer
BC Patil in the role of a rowdy, whose turbulent childhood made him the man he is — rough and tough, cynical and averse to happiness or any kind of celebration, for that matter. “I play a
rowdy
called Kaurava in the film, and my story arc is the most massy of all in Happy New Year. He’s a man from a slum area, who, by nature is rather gruff, and is fresh out of jail. What happens when he meets a young foreigner, who works with an NGO on a cleanliness drive in his neighbourhood, and how their relationship blossoms, forms the rest of the story,” explains the actor.
What sets this love story apart, though, is the fact that neither of them understand each other. “My character does not speak English, while she speaks no Kannada. So he enlists the help of Kaddipudi Chandru to translate and ease the communication gap they have. But he just adds to the language confusion and that provides quite a few laughs,” says Patil.
