In a first for Kannada cinema, a labrador dubs for a movie

In what could be a first such instance in the industry, a seven-year-old labrador, Simba, has dubbed for the movie Naanu Matthu Gunda 2. The second installment of Naanu Matthu Gunda — which was released in 2020 — features Rakesh Adiga and Rachana Inder in lead roles. Director Raghu Haasan says, “We wanted to record the murmurs and barking sounds, which differ from one dog to another due to their age and depending on which breed they belong to. This is something never tried before in cinema. We opted for real sounds to be as authentic as possible, because today cinema is viewed by global audiences. So, even if there is any minor fault, they are quick to react to it on social media.”

He adds, “We don’t want to use any modern sound technology, so we decided to pamper Simba. It took two days to record completely. I am sure the voice lends originality to the movie and enriches the flow of the story.”
