An online search for the credits of a recently released Kannada film brings up just one name in the cast, that of Sudeep. Police Story 3 was made by a set of technicians who were aiming to make it to the Guinness Book of World Records. I have smaller than a guest role in the film barely two scenes. I did it to help the makers achieve the record.
For them, my name associated with the film, gave it marketability, says the actor, speaking to BT from the sets of Vishnuvardhana.
Sudeep, who recently saw the first edit of Vishnuvardhana, is very impressed with the film. We needed to shoot for a couple of songs to complete the film and thats on now, he says. Its not often that a film works out the way youd envisioned it during the script narration. Vishnuvardhana has turned out really well. For me, the role is kind of a first, as it involved a lot of humour. I have done a lot of intense roles in my career and some comedy here and there. But out and out comedy is new for me. This film doesnt have a parallel comedy track. I have to do it, adds the actor.
Once Vishnuvardhana is packed up, Sudeep will return to the sets of SS Rajamoulis Eega in Hyderabad and then for Varadhanayaka, shooting for which has been progressing with Chiranjeevi Sarja and the rest of the cast. Then, the actor wants to take a breather. Ive always maintained that I dont want to have too much on my plate at any given time and mess it all up. Moreover, I have realized that in my career, many a time I have worked on projects for people whom I considered my friends. I value relationships. I have tried to help people by giving their projects my all, even though they havent excited me. Unfortunately, once the film is done, the same people dont care about me. I dont want to get into that again. Ill work with those who care for me and really want to work with me, he maintains.
Is Bollywood still on his radar? Eega will get a Hindi release as well. The makers are currently scouting for an actor to play the lead in that version, explains Sudeep.
Work apart, Sudeep also reckons that his family deserves more attention from him. While building my career, I devoted a lot of time to films. I now realize that I need to be there for my family and also secure their future. And this will be a priority for me, he signs off.
