Golden Star Ganesh, who’s ticket to fame was his second film Mungaru Male, has been appreciated for his ability to play a romantic hero. And the actor, who also believes that romance is his forte, is excited about the release of his upcoming rom-com Sakkare. “This film is very special to me because it was a very cherished team that came together. I’ve been associated with producers Suresh and Shylaja from my television days. Music director V Harikrishna and director Yogaraj Bhat, who filled in as lyricist for the film, are also dear to me,” says Ganesh. For the actor, whose biggest hits are Yogaraj films, Sakkare will be a reunion of sorts. “As an actor-director combination, we haven’t worked together since 2008. Both of us have been busy with other commitments, but we continue to be good friends,” he says. Though he doesn’t have a string of BO hits to his credit, Ganesh is confident that he continues to have a sway over audiences. “I cannot expect every film to be as successful as Mungaru Male. Of the 22 films I’ve acted in, nine have been superhits, three have flopped and the remaining did average business at the BO. So it has been a balance of sorts,” he says. But since most of his hit films have been romantic ones, will he just stick to that genre? “Not really. Agreed, that the audience likes me in romantic avatars, but I have tried to experiment with roles in about one in three films. In fact, I would now love to play a villain, depending on the script and the director,” says Ganesh.
And even though his debut directorial was a dud, Ganesh is game to make another film. “Kool Sakkath Hot Maga just happened. I did not plan to direct it. There’s no hit formula for any film. If I was given the time to plan, I’d love to direct a romantic-action film, but I can’t predict how it will be received,” says Ganesh.
