Upskilling is important, says Shanvi Srivastava, which is why she recently started training for mixed martial arts. “Being an actor involves learning new things. You never know what kind of roles will come your way and you can’t say you’ll prepare for a certain skill after the role comes to you. One never has so much time. Besides, there will be many others who already have the skill. You might just miss an opportunity. Also, being an actor comes with a responsibility to stay fit. You need to take care of yourself. If you fall sick for even a day when you are shooting, it’s not just you who is affected but the entire production unit, and there’s a loss of so much money.,” says Shanvi.
Of getting into the groove, she tells us, "It’s fascinating to see how much your body can take. I took up martial arts after I signed up for a role that involves a lot of high-quality action. However, now that I’m training so much, I eat more than double of what I used to eat. So, even on days that I don't practice, my eating habits are the same. At the same time, I find that my body is always craving to work more."
