I take it as a form of blessing to have played a goddess during Dasara: Anu Prabhakar

For Anu Prabhakar Mukherjee, this Dasara has been made memorable with a role she recently got to essay on the small screen. The actor played goddess Parvati in the serial Anna Thangi and tells us she feels most fortunate to have done so. “In fact, I did the cameo for two reasons. One of because the serial is being backed by a dear friend, director Chaitanya KM, and the other is because it’s Dasara and what can be more apt than playing the divine mother during this season?” states an upbeat Anu.
The cameo is of goddess Parvati, the protagonist’s favourite deity and one she turns to in times of trouble. The actor adds that her mother and aunt were immensely happy to see her in the attire and exclaimed that it must be the goddess’s way of blessing her during this festive season.

Meanwhile, this isn’t Anu’s only tryst with playing such devotional roles. “I have played devotional characters earlier too and the most iconic of them all has been of Danamma Devi. I played that role in a film by the same name. Even today, I’m recognised in North Karnataka by that character and people also have pictures of me in their puja rooms. If actress Jayanthi amma is synonymous as Onake Obavva, actress Saroja Devi amma as Kittur Rani Chennamma, I’m grateful that people identify as Danamma Devi,” Anu avers.

The actor feels television wields a great clout on people and is happy that every time she appears on the small screen it is for assignments that align with who she is. “This role will also stay with me because it essays all the divine qualities of womankind,” sums up Anu.
