Actor
Tarak Ponnappa is delighted to have a second Kannada film release in a span of three months. He has the titular role in
Gilky
, which is set to hit screens this weekend. The project, helmed by YK, also has
Goutham Raj
and
Chaitra J Achar
in lead roles.
Tarak says, “YK and I bonded well when we worked on Ajaramara. I knew that he was working on an out-of-the box script, which took shape as Gilky. My role in the film is performance-oriented, and essaying it was quite challenging. It is the first time in my career that I have taken up such a challenge. I had to lose weight and nail Gilky’s signature smile. For this, I observed monkeys to pick up nuances, such as raising my eyebrows just right. I had to work hard on getting the character right for about three months before commencing the shoot.”
Revealing more details about his role,
Tarak
adds that the common perception is that when a story is centred around three differently-abled characters, it is a sob story, but that is not the case with Gilky. “My character, Gilky, works in a garage. He is completely detached from society. His family also neglects him because he has an intellectual disability. He falls in love with
Nancy, who suffers from cerebral palsy. They create their own world and he then finds a good friend in
Shakespeare
, who is very intelligent. There is a lot of fun banter between Gilky and Shakespeare, which will leave audiences in splits. So, Gilky has a lot of commercial elements like romance and comedy which will captivate audiences,” he signs off.
