I don’t care what people think, my work is my choice: Ragini Dwivedi
Not one to be bothered by labels or what people say of her choices, Ragini Dwivedi is gearing up for yet another pep song that she says “will set another trend”. “The track from Gajarama is going to be the song of the year. We shot for three days in Bengaluru. It’s massy, it’s sultry and has a very afro vibe to it. I have two different looks in the song,” she tells us. Excerpts:
‘The song was designed with me in mind'
For this track, I worked with composer Mano Murthy sir while B Dhananjay didthe choreography. The song was designedfor me to be a part of. Despite conflicts in dates, the team waited patiently for four months to shoot with me. I am beyond honoured that they chose me.
‘I’m not worried about being called an item girl’I was the one who started doing special numbers in movies in the Kannada film industry. Soon after, everyone followed suit. No one probably did it because they were worried about being labelled an item girl. But now, female actresses are choosing bolder roles.
I can carry any label that’s given to me. These labels are based on the roles I do and I have done many. This year alone, I have done a song with Chiranjeevi sir in Telugu, one with Santhanam in Tamil, and one with Chandan Shetty in Kannada. All have been hits and I’m lucky to have some great songs on my track record.
‘I love working with newcomers’
If you choose only to work with established names, then you’re going to miss out on the fresh ideas that the new talent can bring in. That’s why I love working with newcomers; it’s a risk that the both of us take while working with each other. I’m trying to break the myth that the younger folk can’t afford big names.
