I always knew I would sing for dad someday: Sanvi Sudeep on her Kannada playback debut

For Sanvi Sudeep, the past few days have been a blur of excitement. With Masth Malaika from Mark finally out, the singer has made her official Kannada playback debut — and that too with a song from her father Kichcha Sudeep’s upcoming film. “It still doesn’t feel completely real,” she says. “I think it’ll take a few days for it to sink in.”

While Sanvi has released English music earlier, this track marks an important milestone. “Even though I’ve had a song out before, this is still considered my Kannada debut, and that makes it very special,” she says. The upbeat, high-energy number is a departure from her usual sound. “This isn’t really my forte, but I’m glad it turned out well. Seeing people enjoy it and share it on social media has been very nice.”

What makes Masth Malaika even more meaningful is that it marks Sanvi’s first collaboration with her father. “I always knew I’d sing for him someday, but I’m glad it happened with Mark. There’s a great buzz around the film, and I’ve seen how hard he’s worked on it,” she says. “This project is very close to his heart, and being part of it makes it extra special for me.”

‘There wasn’t pressure, just excitement’
Being a star kid often brings expectations, but Sanvi says she kept her focus clear. “Of course there are expectations, but I didn’t think about that while recording. I was just focused on doing my best,” she says.

Of collaborating with composer B Ajaneesh Loknath, she says, “He’s a perfectionist - very particular - if he wants something a certain way, he explains it clearly. I’ve known Ajaneesh sir since I was very young, so I was comfortable. He’s incredibly talented, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.” Sanvi already has another release lined up — a romantic number composed by Charan Raj. Calling him warm and encouraging, she says he gave her ample creative freedom and was keen to explore her vocal range. The song, she adds, will showcase a softer side of her voice. “I hope people see that I’m not limited to one genre. I want to keep experimenting and growing as a singer.”
