Here's why Sudeep and Ravi Shankar continue to fight
In the last two years, P Ravi Shankar emerged as one of the most-sought-after villains in Sandalwood. The turning point was Kempegowda with Sudeep in 2011. In fewer than two years, he has played the main villain in over a dozen Kannada films. Not surprisingly, he has made it to all four of Sudeep’s last films. The Sudeep-Ravi Shankar hero-villain combination is turning out to be a top draw.

After Kempegowda, Ravi Shankar was seen with Sudeep in Varadanayaka and Bachchan. Now the two are shooting for Manikya/Mirchi.
While Shankar started as a lead actor himself in Telugu, he is more popular in Tamil and Telugu as a dubbing artiste. It was his stint in Kempegowda that reintroduced him as an actor. Though popular as a 'one-take-actor', the shooting of Manikya is witnessing Sudeep direct Shankar to multiple takes of every shot. Shankar says, “I am a perfectionist. I think my acting is perfect and that is my conviction. But Sudeep finds mistakes in what I do and I love that. That is his genius.”
Explaining why, he says, “During the shot, there are so many things going on in the minds of an actor and a director. We keep thinking. Even I realise some things and know they can be improvised upon. But you let them go. But Sudeep will notice even if a bead of sweat is out of place. That is why I enjoy every bit of shooting with him and under his direction.”
About the combination that is proving to be very successful, Shankar says, “I am lucky to be in all of his films. Starting with Kempegowda, Varadanayaka, Bachchan and now this film. People like our combination and it is clicking.”
For Manikya, Shankar was asked to shave off his head. “This is a first for me and I need to sport a beard and moustache. I have never shaved my head for a role before and I was too fussy with it. But looking at the result, I am happy with what he did to my hair. I try to look different in every film and I take care in this regard. But the look in Manikya is something I had never imagined before."
