When his debut film, Flop, didn’t work the way he expected, director
Kumaar decided to take a real-life story and present it onscreen as his next. His plan seems to have worked, as the trailer of his
Chemistry of Kariyappa
, produced by BS Manjunath for M Siri Productions, has notched up over a million views.
“The title character, Kariyappa, has been played by
Tabla Nani, a happy family man with a wife and grown up
son
. He is the kind of man who sacrifices everything for his family. The film explores the father-son dynamic, especially after the latter gets married and the issues that crop up with a new member in the family. The story is based on a real incident that occurred in a village in Mandya, which I have presented with some cinematic liberties,” says Kumaar.
The director, a former associate of filmmaker
Suni, adds that the ample dose of comedy and family sentiment in Chemistry of Kariyappa will appeal to audiences. The film also stars
Chandan Achar, and newbie Sanjana Anand in the lead.
