Get set for a suspense thriller that happens over one night
Taking a play to the big screen is not easy, especially when the source material is all of 20-minutes and you need to stretch it for cinematic purposes. But going by the early reports of Aa Karaala Ratri, it seems that director Dayal Padmanabhan has done a good job of it. But he knows that his work is not complete until his film reaches audiences and they recognise that it has good content.

“It isn’t enough if critics certify that a film is good and has great content. It will be truly elevated only if audiences recognise it. It shouldn’t be that everyone keeps saying they heard it is good, but then end up missing it. Filmmakers will be encouraged to make these movies only if audiences support it,” he says. Aa Karaala Ratri is based on a play by Mohan Habbu, which Dayal has made into a 105-minute film, produced by D Pictures and Om Production House, with four principal characters played by Rangayana Raghu, Veena Sundar, Anupama Gowda and Karthik Jayaram. “Cinema has to be entertainment, but beside that it also needs to have certain sensibilities to engage your thought process and I believe that Aa Karaala Ratri does that. It is a perfect crime thriller, with lot of emotions —one that the whole family can watch together. It is also a technically-sound film, with the entire team having contributed their best in their respective fields. I would sum it up as a must-watch for its content and for being technically sound,” Dayal signs off.
