She's one filmmaker who enjoys going into the heart of the state for real stories. Case in point -filming the Karnataka Janapada Academy's endeavour to teach girls from across the state various folk dances such as Veeragase and more. We're speaking of Kavita Lankesh, who is just back from Doddabalapur, where part of the documentary film was shot. She was mighty impressed by the students, many of whom come from very small towns -some even from the slums -and thought they were extremely articulate and confident. But the one who wowed her was 86-year-old Veeragase expert Basappa, who offered to give the filming crew a dance performance anytime they want, his enthusiasm belying his age.Next, Lankesh is preparing to go to Mysore for the next phase of the film.
Will she return with more stories of talented veterans? We'll find out.
