Citizen Kane by Orson Welles
Until I watched Citizen Kane, I was watching movies for the entertainment factor. But the day I watched this film with my father, my perspective and the way I started watching films changed. That day I decided I wanted to be a filmmaker and a journalist.

What inspired me more about the biopic was that it was Orson Welles' debut film which he had directed, written and acted in. The icing on the cake was that he got the Academy Award for best director and in fact, my father also won the national award for his film as well. And that brought me closer to the film.
Deewar by Yash Chopra
Directed by is Yash Chopra, this is the film that made me fall in love with Amitabh Bachchan's character of an angry young man. The movie is close to me because there's a lot of history behind it. In the early 2000, I wanted to make Deewaar in Kannada and bring the film close to home. So, I went to Mumbai bought the remake rights and started my journey to direct the film. I also wanted to direct Sudeep and he was the first one I discussed the film with and he fell in love with the character. After that, I met Darshan who was also doing very well and after listening to the script he was also charged up. But the reason why the film didn't take off was that both Sudeep and Darshan wanted to play Amitabh Bachchan's character and not any other character. I still have the rights to the film...

Bangaarada Manushya by Siddalingaiah
This film is close to my heart as it is for a lot of Kannadigas. This is again a film that inspired me to be a director. It had the right emotions, complete middle-class backdrop and is close to the heart for a lot of Kannadigas. Not just that, a lot of directors from Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam used to come to Bengaluru to watch films like these and get inspired and go back to direct their films back home. Bangaarada Manushya happens to be one such film.
