Dollu, produced by Apeksha Purohit and Pavan Wadeyar under their banner, Wadeeyar Movies, will release today. Directed by Sagar Puranik, the film stars Karthik Mahesh and Nidhi Hegde in lead roles.
About choosing an unusual subject – preserving folk arts – for their first production, Apesha says, "When Pavan and I decided to act on our dream of setting a production house, it took us a couple of years to execute it. We wanted our very first production to display our culture. That's how we embarked on making Dollu."
Apeksha further shares: "I look at cinema as cinema and I am not looking at slotting anything as bridge or commercial. We didn't make Dollu with the intention of winning the National Award either. The content won eventually. It has a love story, friendship, emotions, humour and culture. So, people shouldn't dismiss it, but watch it to understand that National Award-winning films can also be a complete package of entertainment. Today's young directors are changing the flavour of films. People need to watch and experience this."
Explaining why one needs to experience the film in the cinema halls, Apeksha points out, "The highlight of the film is the Dollu Kunitha sequences, one of the topmost art forms from here. The scenes will automatically get one’s feet tapping. This film is our attempt to showcase Karnataka to the world. We are glad that we won 17 international recognitions and two National Awards."
