Since his debut film Sidlingu,
Vijayaprasad’s films have become synonymous with witty dialogues, humorous conversations and double entendres. Petromax, releasing this weekend, is no different.
Vijayaprasad says, “The story was conceived during the first lockdown which I developed with few stars and a limited budget. Once the lockdown was lifted in 2020, we immediately began shooting in Mysuru by following COVID protocols and wrapped up shooting in a short span.
Petromax revolves around four orphans and a mother. The lives of
Sathish Ninasam,
Nagabhushana,
Karunya Ram and
Arun Kumar symbolise life and hope and their characters connect to the common people immediately. Suman Ranganath will be seen in a special role and
Vijayalakshmi Singh, who plays a mother, will be the surprise element in the movie. People use the word Petromax in different contexts. In our movies, it signifies light, an integral part of the protagonist's life.”
The director further adds that apart from the humour and adult comedy, he has touched upon issues plaguing society. “My films are not meant to only entertain people; I always try to deal with social stigmas without getting preachy. In Petromax, of course, there will be loads of dialogues, I have tried to convey the message visually as well,” he explains.
On taking up subjects which revolve around common people, he shares, “I love to work on subjects related to current situations so that people can connect immediately and feel that the story is unravelling amidst them, catching their attention.”
Vijayaprasad is keen to explore different genres. “As a director, I am interested in trying my hand at action, crime and suspense, which I will definitely do after completing projects in the pipeline,” he signs off.
