Nenapirali Prem is one of the prominent actors in Kannada film industry and is known as a lover boy in Kannada movies. The star began his career from the movie ‘Praana’ in Kannada but it didn't do well at the box-office. His next movie ‘Nenapirali’ became a super hit, which gained Prem huge popularity. Later, he acted in many successful movies.
After 16 years of acting in the Kannada film industry, Prem is working on his 25th film ‘Premam Poojyam’ directed by Dr Raghavendra.
Brinda Acharya is pairing up with Prem in this one and Prem is said to have played a different character in this movie. In a recent chat with ETimes, Prem spoke about how he feels doing his 25th film.
Why ‘Premam Poojyam’?
Before ‘Premam Poojyam’ I heard 84 stories. All the stories were monotonous, with the same love, romance, fight, and action. So, I decided to do something new, unique for my 25th movie. I waited for 2 years for a movie, and I got this special story, which has a good director, team, and producer which made me happy.
What kind of role will you be seen playing in your 25th movie?
It is a journey-based story, which travels from the character’s age of 17 years to 45 years. I play nine shades in the film including a college student, degree student and so on.
Does it break the lover-boy image of Prem?
‘Premam Poojyam’ will actually enhance my image as a lover-boy, which makes my fans and audience happy. Even though I am a romantic hero, I haven't even touch the heroine in my 25th movie.
What can the audience expect from the film?
It's a unique, divine and genuine heart-felt love story. The way the protagonist loves a girl is entirely different. There is a fresh subject, which I have never touched upon in my career before. It falls under the love genre, but it has different kinds of content and subjects, and it's a fresh thought and script.
How was your experience working with a new actress and director?
For me, it's not important whether the cast and crew are old or new. I always make them feel comfortable working with me - from actresses, technicians to even directors. I felt responsible for being a senior when I was working with new talents like actress Brinda and director Dr Raghavendra. Dr Raganvendra, who is the director of this movie is a young professor and gold medalist in Neurology in Karnataka. He has never worked on any kind of movie, and this is his first time shooting this film. He has worked for more than 3 years on this subject and has done a great job. During the story narration, he was very clear about what he wanted, and while shooting he was perfect. I felt like I was working with an experienced director.
Were there any new experiments that were done for the movie?
I did a lot of travel for this movie, which I never did for any of my other movies. We have shot in Vietnam, and it is the first Indian film to be shot in Vietnam. We shot two songs, and spent 15 days shooting with little facilities. All the effort and hard work has turned out to be good. Also, at times, I was shooting in minus degree temperatures, and that was a big challenge too. Apart from that, we have two big fight action sequences in the film, and one of them is an anatomy fight. That was a tricky one too.
