After the Chinese attack at the LAC in Ladakh, killing several Indian Army soldiers, a huge uproar has started in India against Chinese goods. Many citizens have been appealing to boycott Chinese products completely and the Indian government has taken a big step regarding the same by banning 59 Chinese mobile applications in India.

TikTok

is one of them and probably the most widely used app in India. It has helped many people make a career as well as entertain themselves and others. But, the ban on TikTok is getting mixed responses from Indians. Celebrities from

Adhviti Shetty

and MG Srinivas to Pavana Gowda from the

Kannada

film industry exclusively spoke to

ETimes

about the ban.

Talking about the ban, actress Adhvithi Shetty said, "It's not only TikTok, but a lot of platforms also help people in terms of showcasing their talent, helping them grow or reach audiences. TikTok was one among them, banning it has affected a lot of people mainly because the people started becoming TikTokers. If the government has taken this decision for our good, I will really appreciate and respect it and I will go by the orders of the government. At the end of the day, our country’s and soldiers' safety matters a lot, and I will support it. If banning TikTok or other apps is gone be helpful for the government, then I will surely support it.”

Pavana Gowda feels the government has made a good decision. “Talking about TikTok, even though I was one of the users, it was completely professional. I kept doing it to be active and entertain the audience and followers. It also helped many cinema promotions, I used to keep it on a professional side. Banning TikTok is such good news, I am happy about it and I also respect it. I always believed there were a lot of disadvantages in society because of this application. It has affected many people because it has affected them professionally and earning money from it. Many people in this generation were not exploring themselves, and they were just doing TikTok and they made TikTok as their lives. I think that will stop now, and concentrate on exploring their talent,” said Pavana.

“It is a welcome decision as it shows that each of our soldiers' lives matter. It sends a strong message that India won't tolerate any harm done to its integrity. This may also encourage the development of local apps,” said actor-director MG Srinivas.

“I started doing TikTok because I was bored during the shootings. Even now, I feel I am not a professional TikToker, I was doing it for timepass. But, after some time, people started recognising me through TikTok videos. So, I started doing videos during the lockdown and reaching out to the fans. It hasn't affected me because I am not addicted and I didn't get limelight from it. Anything that will do good for the country I am for it,” said Adhvithi Shetty.

Pavana Gowda added, “There are so many Indian applications coming on board similar to TikTok, and I heard many people have downloaded them. It's good we should’ve entertainment media, and of course, everyone has the right to explore what they want to do in life, but at what cost is very much important. TikTok ban is definitely good. In fact, anything should be used in a limited way and nothing should extend that limit.”
