Akshay Kumar surprised fans when he announced his upcoming spy thriller ‘

Bell Bottom

’. Soon rumours were rife that the film is based on a Kannada movie by the same title and story, but Akshay went on to deny the same in a social media interaction.

When ETimes got in touch with the

director

of Kannada ‘Bell Bottom’, Jayatheertha, he exclusively informed us, “We have sold the Hindi and Telugu rights to a production house but I have no information about Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bell Bottom’ movie. However, going by Akshay Kumar’s announcement tweet, the movie has the same title, same character and the same 80s story. We believe the movie could have a different story though,” he added.

‘Bell Bottom’ was a huge hit in Sandalwood and featured Rishab Shetty and Haripriya in the lead role. Rishab Shetty is excited to see Akshay Kumar play a similar kind of role in ‘Bell Bottom’. Ranjit Tewari will be directing Akshay in the film which is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani. The film is set to go on floors in mid-2020 and will hit the screens on January 22, 2021.
