Former co-stars Siri Prahlad and Madhusudhan Govind sprung a surprise on their fans on Sunday morning as they got engaged. “Our engagement was a very simple event with just our first circle of family and friends. We are both spiritual and love cows, and we wanted it to be held at a place where there is a Goshala (Cow shelter). So, we got engaged in a temple in a simple ceremony and it coincided with Valentine’s week, which was unplanned,” shares Siri.
The couple is expected to tie the knot by the end of 2024.
Siri and Madhu met on the sets of soap-opera Yugalageethe, eight years ago, which saw them playing Panchami and Arjun respectively. Siri played Madhu’s love interest in the serial. “We got along really well on the sets. We remained great friends even after we wrapped up that show. However, forget marriage, love was the last thing on our minds,” laughs Siri.
Incidentally, it was Madhu’s mom who played Cupid! “Madhu’s mom was keen on his wedding, and in fact, she told him to ask me if I was interested in marrying him. When he approached me, I didn’t know how to react and I told him to speak to my parents. Then our parents connected and here we are today. I don’t even know if I should call this a love or an arranged marriage,” laughs Siri, who adds, “We have very similar thinking. I believe things work better when we have someone who really understands our profession and its commitments. I love films and even when I get back home post shooting for films, I hoped to find someone with whom I can speak about films, and I realised I could do that with Madhu!”
SiriMadhuWay: The portmanteau storySpeaking about the portmanteau - Siri-Madhu-Way (Siri’s wedding), the actress shares: Since we are both Kannada actors, we wanted it to have that local touch. Also, I didn’t want to have ‘half names or part of names’. I wanted both of our names in full and as a portmanteau. So, it was indeed a brain teaser. When I discussed it with a friend, he suggested ’SiriMadhuve’ (meaning Siri’s wedding), which I improvised to MadhuWay, as this is a new chapter/way for both of us and thus came the hashtag ‘SiriMadhuWay’!
