Earlier this week, director
Om Prakash Rao and producer Sudhindra BS began work on a film called
Cottonpete
, starring
Duniya Vijay and
Parul Yadav in the lead. Interestingly, the director-producer had worked on a film by the same name with
Adityaa and
Nikita Thukral in the lead in 2011.
The film, says Adityaa, was about 80% complete with only a song and the climax left to be shot, when the producer allegedly had financial issues and production stalled. 'I hear that they've only made minor changes to the script and relaunched the film. In the first version, I was a guy from Cottonpete, Nikita a Marwari girl, and the story revolved around our romance. It appears that they've only changed the heroine's nativity,' he says.
What irks him is that no one from the team, including the director, producer and actor Vijay, have had the courtesy to inform him about the new development. 'If I were to lodge a complaint in the artistes' association, the shoot of the new version can be stalled. I may not do that, but I expect them to explain their position,' he says.
While Om Prakash did not respond to calls, Sudhindra did. 'This is a completely different film. We have only retained the title, so there was no need to keep anyone informed,' he says. Will the Adityaa film be revived? 'No. That film was only about 50% done when Nikita had personal issues and was banned by Kannada producers,' he signs off.
