She might just be few films old in Tamil, but she is certainly one of the most sought-after actresses in Kollywood. She might not have had a Tamil release in the recent past, but Genelia is still remembered for her characters Hasini (in Santosh Subramanian) and Harini (in Boys) which she played a few years ago. And this time around, the actress is back as the bubbly Pooja, opposite Dhanush, in Mithran Jawahars Uthamaputhiran, a remake of her Telugu hit, Ready. Its been two years since I worked in a Tamil film and Im really delighted that Im back with a special project like Uthamaputhiran. I thank director Mithran C Jawahar, who gave me the opportunity to work in this film. It has been a fantastic journey throughout and I enjoyed every bit shooting for the flick, starts off the chirpy Genelia.
Recounting her experience working with Dhanush, Genelia enthuses, This is the first time Im cast opposite Dhanush and I must say, I had a blast shooting with him. We had a great time together. Also, I think we complement each other very well, which will reflect on the outcome, onscreen.
Playing a bubbly girl is not new to Genelia, and the actress is donning a similar avatar in Uthamaputhiran too. Im reprising the role I did in Ready. I play a bubbly NRI girl called Pooja, who is torn in a family dispute. Its a very girl-next-door character, and my role has been slightly modified to suit the audience here. The film is a complete commercial family entertainer and is a slice from our lives. Im sure it will appeal to all sections of the audience.
And thats not the only reason why she holds this project close to her heart. Its been more than seven years since I met actor Vivekh and Im really happy to team up with him after my maiden Tamil venture Boys. He is an encyclopedia of acting and needless to say, I learnt a lot from him.
The actress is also quite gung-ho about the music of the film. The album of any film is considered to be the first milestone in a films success. Once the album gets a tick mark from the audience, its a hurdle crossed. In this case, I think Vijay Antony has churned out some blissful music, she pipes.
With so many special elements attached to the project, does Genelia have butterflies in her stomach, as the film is about to hit the screens? The original version in Telugu was a runaway hit and I hope the Tamil version does even better, signs off the actress, who has four more projects in her kitty including the Vijay-starrer Velayudham and Santosh Sivans Urumi.
