Saloni Khanna is an accidental actor, but one who took to acting like a fish to water. An engineer, who gave up a corporate job to pursue an MBA, she took up modeling as a part-time career to boost her finances. “Modelling was meant to be a stop-gap arrangement until I joined college, but things really worked well for me and I was a part of pretty much every show in Delhi.
So much so that I dropped the MBA plan to focus on my modelling career. Then, the agency I was associated with moved to Mumbai, and I had the option to go along, which I did. It was a good decision, as I got to take acting lessons, be part of the theatre scene in Mumbai, web series and now, films with the Kannada movie, Gelayana Gelathi,” says Saloni.
But why a Kannada film to start a filmi journey? “The challenge of working with a language that was alien to me excited me. That apart, the script was interesting — it’s a new-age rom-com that is very relatable. I play Priya, a young collegian and her journey of finding love, what happens when that doesn’t pan out the way she thought and more,” explains Saloni, adding that the film also stars
Prabhu Mundkur, Akshay Kishore and
Latha Hegde.
The film brought the Delhi lass to Bengaluru for the first time. “For someone accustomed to Delhi’s harsh weather, Bengaluru was such a welcome change. I absolutely loved it. Also, since I love south Indian food, the city was just apt, because there are multiple options available for any cuisine,” she signs off.
