The high court on Tuesday dismissed a Miscellaneous First Appeal (MFA) filed by a Chennai-based producer and director,
clearing the decks for the release of the multilingual film, 'Killing Veerappan', on Friday (January 1). Vacation judge Justice B Veerappa dismissed the appeal filed by A Raja.
Raja had challenged the order of a civil court on December 7, where his interlocutory application for granting temporary injunction restraining the makers of the film from releasing and exhibiting the film, was rejected.
The lower court had opined that filmmakers are entitled to make the film even without the consent of Raja or Muthulakshmi, wife of forest brigand Veerappan, and that if Raja came to know about making of the said film in September 2015, he did not approach the court immediately and filed suit only on November 7, 2015.

Raja had claimed that he had entered into an agreement with Muthulakshmi to make film and TV serials on the life story of her husband in the southern languages of Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada on May 18, 2006 for a period of three years and paid Rs 10 lakh.
He added that subsequently, the agreement was renewed by payment of an additional Rs 5 lakh on May 18, 2012 and April 12, 2015. He further claimed that he came to know about the production of '
Killing Veerappan' only in September 2015 and wrote to Muthulakshmi and she informed him that she had not given any rights on making a movie on her husband.
However, Muthulakshmi had denied receiving any money from Raja or entering into any such agreements. The filmmakers and producers claimed that issues relating to Veerappan's life are in public domain.
