Filmmaker Dayal Padmanabhan, who is currently busy with his Telugu directorial debut Anaganaga O Athidhi, talks about filmmakers who inspired him. He begins by crediting Sri Murali, who was the first person who inspired him to get into films as an actor.

1. Naga: He is my guru who motivated me to become a filmmaker. He is a very popular filmmaker from

Tamil

Nadu, who ruled the television industry in the 90s and beginning of 2000s. His serials always looked like cinema.

2. Akira Kurosawa: Through Naga sir I was introduced to the world of Akira Kurosawa. I watched films like Rashomon and Seven Samurai. I learnt that films should not only appeal visually, but must also be content driven. I learnt that from his films. Whenever I work on a screenplay, I always think about him, how he would approach the characters.

3. CV Sridhar: He worked in the Tamil film industry and made very versatile films. He never stuck to one genre. He has also made a lot of films in Telugu. I liked him for his screenplay and not sticking with one genre.

4. Sunil Kumar Desai: When I came to Karnataka in 1988, he was extremely popular. He inspired me to present films in a visual format. The way he made films was extremely visual, interesting and presented so well.

5. K Viswanath: He is a legendary filmmaker from the Telugu film industry. He is known for his classics. It is because of him that I love watching classics. You cannot match his films.
