Darshan Thoogudeepa’s ‘Namma Preethiya Ramu’ to re-release in theaters ahead of his birthday

Darshan Thoogudeepa’s iconic film Namma Preethiya Ramu is all set for a grand theatrical re-release. The film, which is regarded as one of the most defining movies of Darshan’s career, will hit the big screens again on February 14, just two days before his birthday on February 16. Fans are eagerly anticipating this special re-release, making it a memorable treat for Valentine’s Day and a perfect lead-up to the superstar’s birthday celebrations.

Originally released in 2003, ‘Namma Preethiya Ramu’ was a major breakthrough for Darshan. The film tells the heart-touching story of Ramu, a blind village singer, and his struggles in life. It stars Darshan in the lead role alongside Navya Natarajan, Hamsavijetha, Doddanna, and Umashree in pivotal roles. The film’s music was composed by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja, with lyrics penned by K. Kalyan and Krishna Priya. Notably, except for the songs Dudilde and Badavana, all other tracks were adapted from Ilaiyaraaja’s Tamil film Kasi.

The re-release of Namma Preethiya Ramu holds sentimental value for Darshan’s fans.


For the unversed, Namma Preethiya Ramu is a remake of the 1999 Malayalam classic ‘Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum’, directed by Vinayan. The original film, starring Kalabhavan Mani, Kaveri, Praveena, and Sai Kumar, revolves around Ramu, a blind poet and singer who supports his family, only to face betrayal from a wealthy businessman-turned-politician.
