Composing songs for Mojo was gratifying for me

Impressed by the Doori Song in Last Bus, director Sreesha Belakvaadi was sure that he wanted filmmaker-music director

to compose the music for his film, Mojo. For Arvinda, it was gratifying that another director wanted him to compose music for his film. What clinched the deal for him was that Sreesha had set ideas about the raagas that he wanted to capture the mood of each song, and the fact that the songs take the film forward and are not just placed for the heck of it. No wonder then that the songs are doing well on music charts.



“The three songs in Mojo are very distinct and each takes the story further. When Sreesha approached me, he had definite plans in place for the songs. I had to work on the raagas he wanted, listen to the different moods in which the raagas were presented in film songs, and compose the songs based on them. While I used the raagas that he had suggested as the base, I then let the song flow,” says Arvinda. While the music for

Maaye Kanasalo

was composed first and the lyrics written thereafter,

Kanakanadali

was unique for Arvinda since the lyrics were first written by

Pradeep Goutham

(who debutes in Kannada films with this movie) after which he set about composing it. “That was the most complicated song, since there were a lot of images and emotions that had to be brought together. I have used mantras, shlokas, shanka and raw Turkish percussion instruments in this song. When singing, there were a lot of variations for singer Chintan Vikas. It’s like many songs in one song,” he says.
