Complaint filed against actor Darshan with Women’s Commission over objectionable remark
In what can be termed as a fresh trouble for actor Darshan, a few members of the women’s organisation, Gowdatiyara Sene, have registered a complaint with the Women’s Commission against the actor for allegedly using derogatory language against women during his recent speech in Srirangapatna. The organisation took objection to his remark ‘Ivathu ivalu irthale, naale avalu barthale (loosely translated to ‘today, it’s her, tomorrow it’s another) at the event, terming it as derogatory.
The remarks were allegedly the actor's response to online war-of-words between his wife Vijaylakshmi and rumoured girlfriend, Pavithra Gowda.
Submitting the complaint, Renuka, state president of Gowdatiyara Sene, said, “Darshan should learn to respect women. He should practice what he preaches on screen. He should explain himself as to why he used such words while addressing his fans publicly. Not just that, he should apologise to women for using such words. Last time too he had made a comment about ‘Adrushta Devathe’. We also know what happened in the past between him and his wife. We, in fact, waited for 3 days for the actor to learn about his mistake and apologise. But, he is yet to even acknowledge it. Which is why we decided to approach the Women's Commission.”
“If he doesn’t comply, then we will stage a protest in front of his house,” she added.
The complaint submitted to the Women's Commission reads: “He is a role model for several youngsters. Thousands of people were present at the event when he made such insulting comments. Darshan should apologise and explain about what kind of messages he wants to send out to the youth.”
As many as 13 members of the organisation have signed the complaint addressed to the Women's Commission chief.
Darshan is yet to comment on the row.
