City’s cyclists to hit the road for Jeerjimbe

is about the vital role that a bicycle plays in a teenager’s life in rural Karnataka, getting the backing of cyclists in Bengaluru only made sense for the team of the film. Director Karthik Saragur, along with his actors Siri Vanalli and Suman Nagarkar, were part of the

Cycle

Day on Sunday at Vijaynagar, at which Sathya Sankaran, the ‘Bicycle Mayor of Bengaluru’, who on behalf of the city’s cycling community, said that they would watch the film — by riding on their cycles to theatres.

Karthik says, “People in urban areas cycle for fun and fitness. We don’t understand that there are people not too far away from us who cycle for life and their dreams. This films resonates with that idea and that caught the attention of the Bicycle Mayor. The city’s cyclists have collaborated with us to promote the film. What’s more, many from the community will cycle to theatres to watch the movie.”

Speaking about the collaboration, Sathya adds, “We are supporting this movie because the cycle is a good companion for the protagonist. People cycle for many different reasons; in this movie, a cycle changes the life of a girl and empowers her. The urban population needs to understand this, and the movie will help us do that.”
Considering that people will be cycling to their neighbourhood theatres, the community will also be approaching multiplexes, requesting them to set up safe cycle parking facilities next to the security. This, they hope, will encourage more people to banish their cars and bikes, and cycle to theatres instead to watch movies.
