Multilingual actor Charan Raj, who last directed
Annan Thangachi
, is making a comeback as a director to launch son
Dev Charanraj in Kollywood. The as-yet untitled movie also stars Sushmitha,
Aditya and Priyadarshini in lead roles.
Charan Raj has also penned the dialogues and story.
Charan Raj says, “I was busy with acting offers all these years, so I couldn’t concentrate on direction. Then, the entire cinema industry was affected by COVID which helped to put my focus back on direction, something I loved to do. I stay in Chennai which is very close to the seashore where fishermen live. That’s how the story came to my mind, and we developed it. This movie is about a young guy who falls in love with a Marwari girl. We have begun shooting in the coastal region of Chennai. We also plan to release it in Kannada and other languages.”
On launching his 24-year-old son, Dev, Charan says, “I never thought he would become an actor. As a child, he was very passionate about sports bikes and cars. He became a pilot and he had to go through hard times as the aviation sector also bore the brunt of COVID. That’s when I suggested that he take up an acting course in Hyderabad. Dev agreed without a second thought. He trained under senior actor
Uttej who was very impressed with his acting and fighting skills and that gave me the confidence to launch him.”
The veteran actor further adds that he is sharing screen space with his son in the movie. “I play his uncle. As father and son, we both were happy to perform on screen,” he says.
In Sandalwood, Charan won rave reviews for his character in Ek Love Ya, “I have been in the industry for 35 years now. I don’t want to do every character that comes my way. At this stage, even if I do a single movie in a year, I want people to remember it. I got plenty of phone calls, appreciating my work in Ek Love Ya. I also acted in Shiva 143. After acting with
