When
Brinda Acharya
completed her engineering, little did she know that she’d be slaying it on the silver screen someday. And as she gets ready for the release of
Premam Poojyam
next week, the actress says she could not have asked for a better debut.
“My character has two shades and I had to work on my look,” reveals Brinda, adding, “My director insisted that I put on a couple of kilos for one of the shades and then lose it for the other. I cannot reveal more, but the film is a journey of 20 years and I have loved playing this role. I feel blessed to debut in
Sandalwood with such a film and team.”
The film is a visual treat, having been shot at picturesque locations across India. Moreover, it is the first Indian film to be shot in
Vietnam
, she adds.
Brinda is all praise for her co-star. “Prem is such a gentleman and very supportive. He has no tension while working and is very cool. I have learnt a lot from him, both on and off the camera, be it interacting with people or understanding the filming process. I was on the set even when I was not shooting,” shares Brinda.
Quiz
Brinda about her journey into showbiz and she answers, “I never had showbiz on my mind. I come from an academically oriented family, where both my parents are teachers. I also had the same notion of being independent and having a 9 to 5 job. But, I always did excel on stage and in extracurricular activities and had taken lessons in music and dance too.”
After her engineering degree, Brinda entered the corporate world. Eventually, she decided that she should try her luck in showbiz. “I wanted to try today rather than regret it later in the future. So, I attended an audition for a television serial, while still having a regular job. I landed a small role in
Mahakali
. Soon after, the director called me for another serial,
Shani
, for a major role. I took a sabbatical. I returned and again continued with my job and that’s when I landed Premam Poojyam,” she recalls.
Brinda says it was by chance that she landed the film. She was contacted by an assistant director for an album song. “Instead of a song, I ended up having a meeting with Dr
Raghavendra BS
. The meeting went on for four hours and I was convinced that this was the best step into films,” she says, adding that she quit her corporate job to give the film her 100 per cent.
