It’s a given that Bengaluru’s creme de la creme of the corporate, film and social circuit will do just about anything for an evening of good food, drinks and entertainment — including braving the city’s crazy Friday night traffic. United by their love for great food, the who's who of Sandalwood, corporate honchos, socialites and culinary wizards gathered at the ITC Gardenia, Bengaluru for the Times Food and Nightlife Awards 2015 and the launch of the Times Food and Nightlife Guide 2016, Bengaluru. Singer and actor
Anuj Gurwara returned for a sixth consecutive time to host the proceedings, “rightly called the Food Oscars”, and regaled the crowd with his wisecracks about the socio-political climate in the country, Bengaluru’s traffic — “with all odd and even number plates out and about” — and much more. The man of the moment, Suresh Hinduja, who has authored the Guide, welcomed the gathering, promised them that there was good food and refreshing beverages in store and added, “On the subject of what’s taken place in the last year, I have to mention something I did last year as well, I still don’t get water in my house, probably because of the 20-odd microbreweries that have opened in town — old joke, but still relevant.”
The chief guest for the evening, award-wining Kannada actress
Radhika Pandit then unveiled the Times Food and Nightlife Guide 2016, Bengaluru and set the ball rolling for the 55 food and nightlife awards across various categories. It was then time for the awards, but not before Anuj used the spirit of award wapsi to quip that there was a counter for the winners to register their credentials, and another for anyone who wished to return their award.
After the ceremony, it was time for everyone to sample the offerings that were laid out by the award-winning restaurants. There was something for everyone, whether it was North Indian, Pan-Asian, Italian, Chettinadu or Japanese. All in all, it was truly Bengaluru served up on a platter.
The Times Food Awards is being presented in association with PepperTap — The Grocery App, supported by Sublime House of Tea, Carysil — Built-in kitchen appliances and Kingfisher.
