Ashvin Mathew talks about his first directorial outing in Kannada

has decided to make his long-time dream of being a filmmaker, into a reality. And he has chosen to do so with a Kannada film. Titled 3 Devi, the film is said to star Shubha Punja and Sandhya De Angelis. The rest of the casting is yet to be finalized.

Interestingly, Ashvin was keen on turning director for a while, 3 Devi was not a planned debut. “I have been working on the script of my film Tenkasi Brothers — a Malayalam and Tamil bilingual. I thought that would be my directorial debut. But it is a big-budget film, and I am still in the process of getting producers on board. That’s when actress Shubha Punja approached me and asked if I could write a story for her. When we discussed and figured the kind of story that was required, I decided to start off on this story immediately. Being a Bengalurean, I decided to make this my first film and produce it myself. Though, this will be my first tryst with Kannada films, and right now, I am working on getting my way around it. Having been an actor myself, I am aware of how things work on the set and often behind the scenes as well. So, I am looking forward to all of this.”

The story, said to revolved around how three women leave their gloomy and oppressive situation and head out on a journey or a road trip together, promises a lot more drama and action. “They decide to go on a forest trail and something happens in the forest which completely changes them, and we get to see how these three regular women channel their inner devi to fight off the evil in the forest. The second half of the film is a thriller. All in all, it is a women-centric film,” says Ashvin.

A lot of focus is being given to the music as well, as Ashvin says, “Music is essential and critical to film making and it is especially so for this film, I haven't decided on a particular style, but I want it to be unique. A lot of rock and funk mixed with shlokas to connect with the theme of the film of goddesses. I am discussing the idea with
