Ash King comes to Sandalwood

Ash King, the UK-based singer of Indian origin, who’s become a popular name in Bollywood circles after his songs Te Amo (Dum Maaro Dum), and I Love You (Bodyguard), among others, has sung his first Kannada song in Savaari 2.
Ash has sung Ello Mareyaagi, a philosophical song penned by Jayanth Kaikini. “The song plays during the road trip that the film’s protagonists — Srinagara Kitty, Karan Rao and Girish Karnad — undertake.The lyrics imply that life is short and that one ought to make the most of it,” explains the film’s director, Jacob Varghese.
Why Ash, though? “Our composer Manikanth Kadri and the entire team thought that the song required a very global voice. We had three names in mind — Ash, Nikhil Paul George (Main Kya Karoon from Barfi!) and Lucky Ali. We got in touch with Ash, and it turned out that he was free and, surprisingly, he was OK to sing a song in a language completely alien to him. We had booked him a month in advance to our actual recording, by which time he had rehearsed so well that he did a fantastic job,” adds Jacob.
