What seemed to be a done deal for
Boney Kapoor last weekend has taken a double twist. The producer had almost clinched the Hindi remake rights of Kannada film, Godhi Banna Saadarana Mykattu, popularly known as GBSM.
Kapoor had planned to cast
Anupam Kher and
Shahid Kapoor for the roles essayed by
Anant Nag and
Rakshit Shetty in Kannada. But it has now emerged that two more powerful film personalities are eyeing the film's remake rights.
The film has become a big hit in Kannada.
Prakash Rai, who has picked up the remake rights of the film for Tamil and Telugu, wants GBSM producer Pushkar Mallikarjunaiah and director Hemanth Rao to hold the remake rights until
Amitabh Bachchan watches the film. Rai, who has also evinced interest in purchasing the Hindi remake rights of the film, has said that he will make the film in Hindi if Bachchan agrees to play the role ' that of an old man affected by Alzheimer's ' played by Nag. Besides Kapoor and Rai, Tamil director AR Murugadoss is also in talks with the makers.
Rao said, "We have a few potential buyers. But it would not be ideal to reveal their offers or what we are discussing. It may send the wrong signal. We just want the film to reach a larger audience."
