A single window clearance to shoot films: Tara
The long-standing demand of the Kannada film industry to have a single window clearance system to shoot movies in the state was recently echoed in the Belgaum Assembly session. The issue was raised by the Chairman of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, Tara, who is also an MLC.
Speaking about the system, Tara says, Currently, if filmmakers have to shoot movies, they have to seek permission from different authorities by paying various amounts fixed by them.
1x1 polls
If a single window clearance system comes into existence, then filmmakers have to pay a one-time amount and shoot freely in any corner of the state without any hassles. At present, Goa is following the single window clearance system. If filmmakers pay `10,000, they can shoot their film in any part of Goa. We want the same system to be followed even in Karnataka.
Veteran film director MS Ramesh, president, Karnataka Film Directors Association, says, We have appealed to the government repeatedly over the years to allow a single window clearance to shoot movies to no avail. It is cumbersome to take permission to shoot simple scenes, since we have to run from pillar to post to get permissions sanctioned. If the government gives a nod to this system, it would benefit the film industry.
Echoing his view, first time filmmaker Prashanth Kumar who is shooting for his film Akramana, says, Making a film for the first time, it was shocking for me to see the amount they charge to shoot movies in our own state. The money which drains out for shooting location can be saved if we can have single window clearance system, says Prashanth.
Preetham Gubbi who is presently directing Nam Duniya Nam Style, says, In foreign countries, if we shoot nature we dont need to pay anything, but here we have to pay for everything. Ive had to forego some shots in my films, because getting permission was a laborious process that ate into our production cost and time. This is where a single window clearance for films will be helpful.
