An industry that sees a film release every other week, hasn’t had a single film making it to theatres over the past two months. Tulu cinema is truly witnessing a slump owing to the heavy rain that is lashing the city. And with many big-budget Bollywood films lined up for release in August Tulu filmmakers are holding back from releasing their movies amid such competition.
“People are not stepping out of their homes unless it’s absolutely necessary and watching movies is the last thing on their minds right now. Theatres are hardly witnessing footfalls and fearing this, filmmakers are not releasing their films,” shares Suraj Mangaluru, who works closely with the local film industry and its distribution channels.
Close to 10 Tulu films are awaiting release. “Some of them hoped to make it to theatres in August, but a slew of Kannada, Hindi and Telugu movies are slated to hit the screens at the time. Only one filmmaker has confirmed a release in August. The rest have decided to wait it out. Clearly, these are trying times for Tulu cinema,” sums up Suraj.
Tulu films that are current stuck without a release day until end of August:
