Is it too late to combat the perils of technology, as we are fast enrolling ourselves into a digital format that not only gives unknown people access to our credentials, but also our whereabouts, to a certain extent? This thought forms the premise of a new short film by Bengaluru-based writer-director Ananyabrata Chakravorty. Titled
Naukri, the plot of this eight-minute film revolves around the growing concerns over today’s online world — particularly government surveillance and data theft.
“Nowadays, the Aadhaar-privacy debate seems to be unwittingly becoming part of every discussion — be it at office, home or among friends. While the majority have enrolled themselves in the process, a good number of citizens are still sceptical about giving in because of the concerns over the misuse of their personal information.
Naukri focuses on that very discourse, alongside the algorithms and data structures involved in the digital space and their overall impact on people,” says Ananyabrata. Featuring actors Anushka Nair and Kafeel Jafri, the short film is produced by Pixel Pictures.
“Although the film is primarily an entertainment project, we are hoping to create awareness about a social subject, without being too preachy,” Ananyabrata sums up.
