Divangatha Manjunathana Geleyaru Movie Review {2/5}: Critic Review of Divangatha Manjunathana Geleyaru by Times of India

Manjunath, a youngster who likes living the good life through constantly taking debts, is found murdered. This leads to the police trying to solve who killed him. While on one hand his friends are taken aback by the news of his murder, there is a cop who is on a race against time to prove them guilty. A comedy of errors ensues.Divangatha Manjunathana Geleyaru is a story that tries to showcase the lives of the engineering students who don't get placed with high flying jobs in a satirical manner. The premise that the filmmaker has is nice. There is one dead guy, who has been killed, and has many friends who hold grudges against him. They are summoned by a cop, who has to solve this case at any cost in 24 hours to ensure that he isn't transferred on grounds of his poor performance. What could have been a nice story ends up being a tale that plays to the gallery, with caricature-like characters and unimpressive gags at most times. The film begins on a good note and the first few sequences seem promising. But the screenplay ends up taking a turn towards being average and predictable, and the many twists and turns that the makers induce in this tale don't seem to infuse the pace required to keep a comedy of errors going on. The performances by certain characters do infuse laughs at times, but the tried and tested stereotyping doesn't really help. This could have been a decent short of 45 minutes, but the stretched screenplay doesn't work for the script at most times. Watch it, though, if you are a fan of films that focus on drunken bromance and punchlines that are tailored to suit the broken hearts of these boys who get dumped by gold-digging girls.
