By Susmita SameeraBayakegalu Berooridaga explores the quiet, often invisible emotional gaps that can form inside a marriage, especially when one partner’s world shrinks within the four walls of a home. The film opens in the present with Radha (Sharanya Pattanashetty), a homemaker whose day begins before sunrise—managing household chores, caring for her young child, and preparing her husband Sathya (Aakarsh Adithya) for work. Once the house falls silent, she finally pauses, scrolling through Facebook, where a “memories” notification flashes back to the first day of her job four years earlier. This moment gently pulls the film into a flashback set in the small town of Dwarakapura, where Radha once had aspirations, met Sathya, fell in love, and eventually married him. Cut back to the present, Radha now lives in Bengaluru, far removed from the independence she once knew. Sathya, consumed by work and travel, reduces their interactions to functional conversations—food, clothes, schedules. Emotional connection is scarce. Even Radha’s mother (Shailaja Joshi), during her occasional visits, senses the growing strain between the couple. The loneliness Radha suppresses begins to surface painfully on their wedding anniversary, when Sathya forgets the occasion and scolds her instead. That quiet heartbreak becomes the tipping point. In an impulsive moment, Radha responds to a message from an unknown person on WhatsApp. What begins as a casual conversation slowly turns into companionship, bringing back a sense of warmth and validation she has been missing. Her changed mood does not go unnoticed. Suspicious and uneasy, Sathya hires a private investigator, shifting the film into a very different emotional register in its second half. The narrative then raises uncomfortable questions: Is Radha emotionally drifting toward this new friend, Madhava? How will Sathya confront what he discovers? Can the marriage be repaired, or is separation inevitable? The film’s greatest strength lies in its empathy. It refuses to villainise either Radha or Sathya, instead presenting both perspectives with restraint. Radha’s isolation and emotional hunger are portrayed as psychological realities rather than moral failures, while Sathya’s neglect stems more from conditioning and career pressure than cruelty. The climax, in particular, adds a thoughtful twist that reinforces this balanced approach. However, despite its strong subject matter, the film falters in execution. The treatment feels dated, with limited technical finesse and uneven writing in parts, which prevents the narrative from reaching its full emotional potential. The intent is clear and meaningful, but the storytelling often feels old-school, diluting the impact of an otherwise relevant theme.Performance-wise, both Sharanya Pattanashetty and Aakarsh Adithya deliver sincere, grounded performances that anchor the film. Their restraint works in favour of the story, making the emotional distance believable rather than dramatic.Overall, Bayakegalu Berooridaga is a modest but earnest film with an important message, particularly for partners who overlook the emotional needs of homemakers. While it may not impress technically, it offers a valuable takeaway on negligence, companionship, and the quiet damage caused by emotional absence. A worthwhile watch for married audiences looking for reflection rather than spectacle.
