TRP Rama

Plot: In what seems like two parallel stories, Lakshmamma (Mahalakshmi) is determined to find her lost son. At the same time, reporter Nakshatra (Sparsha RK) is trying to hunt down a rapist. Is there a connection between both?

Review: Investigative reporter Nakshatra (Sparsha RK) follows a lead about Rama (Ravi Prasad) after the city witnesses multiple sexual assault cases. On her journey, she meets people who meet a dark, sadistic picture of Rama. Soon, she crosses paths with Lakshmamma (Mahalakshmi) who is on the search for her missing son. The story revolves around Nakshatra trying to find out if Rama is really the culprit or a scapegoat for crimes that have been committed by unseen forces.

The story tackles the television or media's much-dissed and discussed ‘unethical reporting’ head-on. Though the concept is fresh, it fails in writing and execution, because of which characters with potential end up looking weak.

Ravi Prasad, who has helmed dual responsibility of direction and acting, has done a decent job in his debut film. He fares well as a writer, with a scope of improvement here and there, but needs a little honing when it comes to acting. Singer-turned-actor Sparsha’s natural performance works in favour of the film. Pallavi Parva fares well as a village belle. However, the biggest strength of the film is veteran actor Mahalakshmi, who has returned to cinema after 30 years. Her role as a devastated mother is captivating. Music by Rajguru Hoskote has a folk touch, but doesn’t stand out

TRP Rama marks a palpable shift from the run-on-the-mill thrillers, but needed some more efforts in execution. If thrillers are your jam, TRP Rama makes for a one-time watch.
