Trataka

Trataka is a spiritual practice that allows one to align the senses well enough to awaken and open the 'third eye'. But for a passing mention in the second half, one wonders the significance of the title as even metaphorically it doesn't fit. Leaving that aside, the film has an interesting murder thriller plot and has been shot stylistically. The film, though, ends up seeming a tad too long with unwanted elements like an item song.

The story is about a policeman trying to avenge the killing of his brother. The tale has a lot of murder and gore, which aptly justifies the film's A certification. The story is about an ACP who suffers from Complex Partial Seizure, who has two close friends and a love interest - all of whom are aides in helping him in finding the killer. What do their investigations lead to? Also, when every suspect or clue is being killed, does this mean they are underestimating the danger ahead?
Trataka scores on style. It has some good camerawork and background score that complement the visuals. The lead actors do a good job too. Only, one wonders if the filmmaker should have concentrated less on stating the obvious in scenes that involve the actors thinking or doing actions. These make the film seem very verbose. While the songs in the film are nice, they reduce the pace of the narrative.
Trataka is an interesting attempt that scores visually and with performances, but loses momentum because of the sluggish narration. You could watch it if you like to see a thriller that tries to be cerebral and has a heady dose of gore.
