Shathaya Gathaya

Shiva is an orphan, who grows up with his grandfather. He is taught to be fearless as was wronged as a child by the powerful men in the village, who killed his mother. He is on a mission to take revenge, but he is startled as there is a mysterious person who is killing all those he wanted to kill before him.

Shathaya Gathaya is yet another film that is set in the rural backdrop in Sandalwood, with lewd jokes and lot of double entendres. The film aims to be a murder mystery, but the excessive storylines woven to piece together this narrative make it seem like an endless watch, even though the film is well under two hours in length.

The story begins with a flashback sequence and then follows the usual commercial formula of an introduction song, a romantic duet, a drunken dance number and an item song peppered with a few fights and comedy tracks. The story is rather dull until there is a twist in the interval. But as the story continues in the second half, it becomes duller and the twist doesn't seem compelling at all. The film ends up being one massive yawn fest.

The film has rather shoddy camerawork and editing, which makes watching the entire film, with its jarring visuals and sudden jumps, a rather big achievement. The lead pair of Raghu Ramappa and Sonika Gowda seem earnest, but they have a shoddily-written love track. The ensemble cast, which comprises many new faces, do not add any sheen or appeal to the track. The comedy seems crude and at times unpalatable, and if such is your type, then maybe you might enjoy this film.
