Ranam

Plot: Four young students take it upon themselves to solve the problems being faced by farmers and decide to take on corrupt politicians. They find help in a revolutionary, but their means gets a tough cop chasing them.

Review: Ranam has been marketed as a film that has late Chiranjeevi Sarja, Chetan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as its main cast if one goes by the posters. Though, they only essay important cameos and the film is majorly about four students and their fight against corruption and injustice to farmers. The intent seems right for this film, but that is it. The execution and making seems at least two decades too late. Loud and over the top melodrama, jingoistic dialogues and jarred visuals make watching the film a tough task.

One of the biggest problems the narrative has is unnecessary diversions from a very relevant topic. There are shoddily written romantic tracks for the young protagonists, the comedy is also terribly unpalatable. And the problems of farmers eventually becomes just a short segment that's overshadowed by many wrongly placed songs and sequences. Some of the action sequences too, especially the opening chase sequence, evoke unintentional laughter.

Chiranjeevi, as the tough cop, is good, but the rest of the film does not hold up to that. The four youngsters playing college students deliver very amateur performances and this is a big setback as the film relies on them majorly. Ranam promised a lot, but delivers very little. Watch it at your discretion.
