Missed Call

In an attempt to take up a challenge that showcases his talent, an aspiring filmmaker falls prey to rather strange supernatural incidents through a borrowed mobile phone.

Protoganist Kiran comes from a financially-challenged background. He is an aspiring filmmaker, who manages to impress a producer who agrees to produce his film on the condition that he proves himself by capturing a glimpse of the film on a mobile phone.
While this comes across as an opportunity, the bigger issue Kiran faces is that he cannot afford a mobile phone. No amount of begging friends and so-called well-wishers works in his favour.
As luck would have it, one day, he chances upon a cell phone that someone has dropped on the road. Being an honest guy, he finds the owner of the cell phone. The owner, a girl, is so impressed that she buys him a new phone, thereby, giving wings to his dreams.

The twist in this tale comes in when Kiran starts using this phone. He receives anonymous calls so often that it stops him from shooting the minute-long piece of the film he wants to make. The calls eventually lead him to a haunted house, where he gets trapped.

The setting of this story – that is the life of a struggling filmmaker or a film personality – has been addressed in many films. Missed Call addresses the issue as well, but it fails to do justice to the subject. It is right to assume that the professional struggle is not the main aspect of this film. Instead, it is the horror and suspense that make the crux of the story. However, there is not much that impresses in this aspect either. The screenplay fails to grab attention. Kishore, who appears as a cop in a cameo, has tried his best. But this is not a film that can be revived by a single character.
