Manoratha

A youngster from a small town ends up traveling to Bengaluru for an interview, where he stays at the house of a relative (a filmmaker). He begins reading a diary in the house that is a thrilling tale. Is there more to what's written in the book?

Films that fall in the psychological thriller genre in Kannada are few. When you have the prospect of one unfolding on screen, it is exciting. Unfortunately, this film seems half-baked in its presentation and the story takes a toll on your mind by the time you try and get to what the makers want to narrate.

Manoratha tries to blend thriller elements with an emotional saga of a loving mother and her suffering son as the base. While the film tries to venture into the psychological thriller space, the research on psychological illnesses and terminologies seems bare minimal, and it clearly doesn't add to the script. What could have been a taut narrative ends up being a tough ordeal to sit through till the end.

Manoratha is not a crisp psychological thriller as it promises to be, but if you do want to check out a different effort that does not really hit bull's eye, you might want to give this a shot.
