Krishna Talkies

Plot: Ajai visits his hometown with his friend Suri. The death of his friend Suri in an accident and the mysterious disappearance of a girl named Parimala lands him in the midst of a curious case that he ends up pursuing.

Review: Krishna Talkies is a horror thriller that is set in the heartland of Karnataka. The film, as the title suggests, is set against the backdrop of a cinema hall. The film takes a long winding route to deciphering this story with some extra, unnecessary elements. Eventually, the film does have some gripping elements that stand out.

The film begins on a rather slow pace, with an unwanted item song thrown in right in the beginning. It is midway through the first half that the film gathers some momentum and ends up with an interesting interval twist. The second half has some good twists, though there is an unnecessary romantic number inserted that spoils the pace. Eventually, the film does manage to make for a good one time watch, with some predictable and some unpredictable turns.

There are some points in the film that do not make sense. For instance, the protagonist, who is almost painted as a good for nothing wastrel in the initial scenes, suddenly becomes an astute investigator who is better than the policemen he is working with. What works for the narrative, though, is the background score, that elevates the thriller elements.

Lead actor Krishna Ajai Rao does a good job, with most of the narrative running with just him in the frame. The two leading ladies have bare minimum to do. The ensemble cast of comedians and villains do their bits. In all, Krishna Talkies makes for a decent watch, albeit there are some glaring glitches that need to be overlooked.
