Kichchu

Suri is a speech-and-hearing-impaired green activist in a village, who is married to Nandini, who also is speech-and-hearing-impaired. Nandini's sister, Padmini, is a voice of reason, who wants Suri to mend his ways. Suri, meanwhile, is trying to save the green cover from the land mafia. Will they all find peace?

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding this project, be it for the fact that it is late actor Dhruva Sharma's last film, Sudeep's cameo or the fact that Ragini Dwivedi is seen in an atypical de-glam role for the first time. The subject deals with naxals, green warriors and forest mafia. The subject has an interesting plot, but it lacks the intensity that it needs for the sensitive subject that it deals with. Yet there are some poignant moments that tug those strings of your heart.

The film is set in a rural setting and captures the milieu pretty well. The film begins on a dramatic note, but then falters in pace. The second half, though, salvages the plot, with quite a lot happening to ensure one remains glued to the screen. The film is about love, betrayal, relationships and trust, and it does make for an interesting ride through them all.

Kichchu might not be a drama that keeps you in the edge of your seat, but it has its heart set in the right place. The fact that there are some good performances that complement the intent is an added bonus. Right from the lead actors to Ragini, to the supporting cast — they seem to have been cast aptly. Sudeep's cameo is not the usual starry one, but his words resonate and are relevant to all. Go ahead and watch the film, especially if you like to watch films minus all the regular dose of masala found in the commercial potboilers. This might just be what you were looking for.
