Kamarottu Checkpost

An ad filmmaker decides to take a break from his schedule and visit his best friend in Kamarottu. It is over there that he begins to experience strange paranormal happenings. Who or what is the cause?

A paranormal thriller being set against the backdrop of Mangaluru and Malnad has almost become the norm in Sandalwood. We've seen some do well, while some have fared not so great. Kamarottu Checkpost does have some good fright moments, even though the plot might have you figuring out who or what the reason for the paranormal activity is.

The story has the protagonist, an ad filmmaker Sanath, heading to Kamarottu to meet his best friend there with a surprise visit. Only, this visit ends up as a bit of a surprise for Sanath and his family and friends themselves, as they end up facing strange occurrences around them in the house.

The movie has all the regular tropes of horror films. Women wandering alone, children sighting and speaking to spirits, a psychic and a lot of loud background score to infuse more scare in an otherwise normal scene. The ensemble cast is earnest. Gaddappa provides all the comic relief and one enjoys his character, especially his flashback sequence.

Kamarottu Checkpost might not be the most taut horror thriller made, but it does have enough chills for those looking for a scary outing to the cinema hall. It could make a one-time watch for those who enjoy this genre.
